Classes & Camps

Since 1997, the WDC has provided opportunities for children to learn the complexities of caring for animals in captivity and putting those skills to use.

With the closing of the WDC on March 24, 2023, we understand that there will be children (and parents!) who would like to see Lake Forest Parks & Recreation offer other opportunities for nature and wildlife classes and camps. We are exploring ideas and will post more information here if we can expand our programming to provide these types of experiences at our other facilities. It also presents a unique opportunity to imagine what comes next at Elawa Farm. The City is considering options to activate the space. Stay tuned!

We have many special memories of Saturday Zookeeper, Beaver Island trips, Beach Campouts, Wildlife Classes, and Summer Camps! If you want to share stories and pictures with us, tag us on social media @WildlifeDiscoveryCenter or email [email protected]. If you'd like to write thank you letters, send cards, drawings, or pictures, mail them to Rob Carmichael, Wildlife Discovery Center, 1401 Middlefork Dr, Lake Forest, IL 60045.

Thank you, Lake Forest, for being so supportive over the past 25 years!
